Descendants Day

Fremantle Prison hosts the Descendants Day ceremony on the Western Australia Day (previously Foundation Day) public holiday each year to recognise the contribution that the system of convict transportation made to the early development of the colony and its rich legacy in Western Australia's cultural and built heritage.

Direct descendants of Western Australian convicts, enrolled pensioner guards and warders who arrived at the Swan River Colony between 1850 and 1887 are invited to apply for a certificate for the 2013 ceremony. The Convict Database may assist with further information.

Applications for Descendants Day 2013 have now closed. We apologise that we are unable to accept late applications.

If you have applied to receive a certificate at this year's ceremony Fremantle Prison will advise you of your elligibility and provide an event invitation in mid April.

Details of how to apply for Descendants Day 2014 will be posted following the ceremony this year, in approximately mid June.
