Part 2... the view from the guntower.

The view from a Guntower looks out over the stark parade ground at the imposing structure of the Main Cell Block. It is the tallest and longest cell range in the Southern Hemisphere.

To the left is New Division, built between 1904 and 1907 as a response to overcrowding. It has recently been redeveloped as a business enterprise centre.

Alongside this is the former Women's Prison and roofs of the West Workshops. Both are currently occupied by the WA School of Art and Design.

The Main Cell Block was constructed from limestone quarried on the site. The white line on the wall shows the shape of the original hill.

Open to the public 7 days a week from 10.00am until 5.00pm (closed Good Friday and Christmas Day)
