Part 6... the exercise yard.

Prisoners spent all day in the Exercise Yard unless they had a job to go to in the kitchens or workshops. The overwhelming experience was one of absolute boredom. Lunch was also eaten here, as there were no dining halls at Fremantle Prison.

To pass the time prisoners would play cards, tennis or basketball. There was a single television and basic gym equipment.

The wall was painted white so that the uniform or prison 'greens' would stand out and make prisoners easier to see.

Prior to the decommissioning of the Prison permission was granted for artwork to be undertaken on some of the walls and examples of this are shown here in the Division 2 yard.
