The Terrace Car Park and Knutsford Street Ramp

The Fremantle Prison Heritage Precinct Master Plan proposed the redesign of the car parking to separate vehicular and pedestrian traffic, reduce the visual impact of car parking, and restrict vehicular access and parking at the northern end of The Terrace.

Also the ramp from Knutsford Street to the Prison is not sealed and requires a stable surface to provide better access to the site.

To improve pedestrian access to the Prison it has been decided to bring forward the resurfacing of the Knutsford Street Ramp.

The scope of works can be summarised as follows:

  • Resurfacing the walkway with a bitumen stabilised limestone surface;
  • Extending the existing fence along the western boundary;
  • Installing new stairs from the Parry Street car park;
  • Improving drainage to reduce water run off; and
  • Landscaping the area at the top of the ramp.

 The contract for this work has been awarded to CPD Limited and work is scheduled to be completed by the end of July 2011.
